The riverine village of Ikot Akpan Udo in Ukpum Ete clan of Ikot Abasi is on fire, following the alleged disappearance of seventy million naira (70,000,000 compensation from Sterling Petrochemical Fertiliser Limited for a gas pipeline route from Atabrikang in Eastern Obolo to C300 and for 9 hectares of land, also acquired by the company.
Goodnews Akpan Moses, Pastor and Youth President of the village, who disclosed this, alleges that Ikot Akpan Udo has suffered devastating environmental degradation, corrosive hazards, agricultural and foul infertility, massive land grabbing, colossal loss of aquatic resources and freezing intimidation since 20Sterling Stirling PetrochemFertiliserertilizer Limited (SSPFL)arrived in the community.
According to him, legitimate owners of properties along the right of way are yet to receive the 70 million naira compensation, which has been paid by the oil company.
