
The Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Ibrahim Quadri, have emphasised the need for Nigerians to embrace selflessness and support one another to reduce poverty at the grassroots.
The local government chairman and Quadri made the call on Saturday while speaking during an empowerment programme organised by the Eniobanke Foundation, during which over 150 traders and artisans were supported with cash grants of N100,000 each.
The foundation also empowered 50 tertiary institution students who are indigenes of the state with N50,000 bursaries each, as well as laptops for ten students with the best CGPA.
Oyegbola-Sodipo lamented that, more often than not, people who are given opportunities tend to corner them for personal gain, maintaining that this selfish disposition has prevented the dividends of democracy from reaching the grassroots.
