The rising cost of living has emerged as the most significant event affecting young Nigerians over the past five years, with 43 percent identifying it as their biggest concern, according to the African Youth Survey 2026.
The survey, one of the continent’s largest studies of young people, is based on face-to-face interviews with 4,901 young Africans across 16 countries.
The findings show that while economic pressures remain a major concern for Nigerian youth, they are also increasingly focused on job creation, democratic governance and accountability as key drivers of Africa’s long-term development.
